How a Franceschetti Artisan Shoe Is Born

The Blake Rapid Construction

A Franceschetti shoe is far more than just an accessory: it’s a work of art, handcrafted through over 200 meticulous steps.

From the first pencil sketch to the final touch of wax, each phase is a tribute to Italian shoemaking tradition.

From Idea to Form

It all begins with an idea. The designer envisions lines, proportions, and details. That vision becomes a prototype, tested on the foot to ensure perfect fit and comfort. Next comes material selection: only the finest leathers, carefully chosen for texture, softness, and depth of tone.

The Craft of Hands

The cutting is done by hand, entrusted to skilled artisans. The pieces are then prepared for stitching: perforating, edge coloring, and precise seams give life to the upper. Between the lining and the outer leather, toe caps and heel counters in leather are inserted to add structure and support.

Heat, Shape and Color

Special machines shape the shoe, applying pressure and heat. The upper is softened and molded perfectly to the last.

If the leather is crust, it is hand-dyed in layers, creating rich and unique color nuances. Each shade tells a story, each variation reflects the artisan’s touch.

The Blake Rapid Method

After resting on the last for at least a week, the shoe is ready for assembly. The sole is applied using the Blake Rapid method – a time-honored construction known for durability, flexibility, and water resistance. The first stitch (Blake) attaches the insole to the midsole and upper; the second (Rapid) secures the outsole. The welt, if present, is sewn with surgical precision for breathability and adaptability.

Finishing Touches

The heels are shaped, sanded, and polished by hand. Soles are dyed, waxed, and sometimes painted in two tones. A hot iron smooths the leather, bringing out depth and warmth. The brush gives the final shine. The shoe is then removed from the last, the heel is nailed from the inside, the insole applied, and the lining pressed with care.

The Final Act

Pomades and beeswax nourish and protect the leather. Each shoe is hand-polished and antiqued to create a deep, living color.

After rigorous quality checks, laces are added, and the shoe is boxed. It’s the moment when the artisan parts ways with their creation—ready to begin its story, step by step.
